Blog Basics: Making Time for Blogging and Keeping It Fun

by Abby on February 13, 2012

Happy Monday, and welcome to the third part in my series on long-term blogging for fun, fame, and fortune! Well, the first one, anyway. You can read Part 1 here: when and why I started a blog. And Part 2 here: 3 things to consider when starting a blog.

This week’s post comes in the form of a Q&A with fellow writer mom and blogger Malia Jacobson. Malia had some questions about how and when I make time for this thrice-weekly blog habit of mine, and how I’ve stuck with it for almost 6 years now. Believe it or not, I have never — not once — run out of ideas for posts. In a pinch, I’ll repost something from my archives, but that’s usually related to lack of time, not ideas. I firmly believe that writing begets writing. The more you write, the more you have to write about and the easier and faster it becomes.

To find out how I keep track of my ideas, how long it takes me to write a blog post, how I stay motivated, and why I am all for drinking and blogging, head on over to Family in Progress.

I’d love your feedback here or there. Is blogging fun for you or a chore? How much time do you spend on it? And do YOU drink and blog?

P.S. Big congrats to another writer, mom, and blogger Angie Mizzell, who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl over the weekend! Welcome, Baby Cate!

Since I only comment at this time on a number of blogs, it is certainly not a chore, it is something I enjoy doing and especially the interchange with other folks and their comments. Miss Angie just posted some new pics on her blog a few minutes ago, what a trooper, huh.

I really enjoyed this. It wasn’t anything novel, but it confirmed many of the thoughts I already had. I have been blogging every weekday since October, and even though at times I don’t feel like writing, the overall process has been amazing. Thank you for sharing.

I started blogging in 2007 and I started blogging becauase I love to write and still, to this day, I love blogging just as much. Lately it seems that I don’t have as much time to blog as I used to, because work is busy and home life with my growing children is busy and I can’t and don’t want to be on my computer (for the most part) when my children are awake, you know? I don’t find blogging to be a chore, but I do wish I had more time to read the blogs I love – like yours – and have time to comment. I have noticed that many bloggers who used to blog more regularly are now doing it less and less.

Hi, Loukia! How have you been? Yours is one of the few blogs I read back in the day that’s still around. It definitely is tougher to find time to blog as kids get older, stop napping, go to bed later, and have homework, etc. I don’t like to be on the computer around my kids, either. They just beg me to go on YouTube so they can watch silly videos!
