My E-book Has Launched!

Mama Insider: Laughing (And Sometimes Crying) All the Way Through Pregnancy, Birth, and the First 3 Months, an ebook by Abigail GreenYou know how you think some things are going to be totally simple, no big deal, get-it-done-in-a-day tasks? Like, say, sending out Christmas cards or planning your child’s birthday party? And then before you know it, you’ve spent countless hours and dollars on the darn thing and it drags on and on and you’re so fed up but you can’t bag it because you’ve already invested so much time in it? Publishing an e-book is just like that.

I am pleased to announce that after LOTS of time and effort and support and coffee and wine, Mama Insider: Laughing (And Sometimes Crying) All the Way Through Pregnancy, Birth, and the First 3 Months is now available for your reading pleasure! For just $4.99 you can purchase the PDF version via Paypal or the e-reader version via Smashwords. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy, as we say in my house.

Now I know why the Acknowledgements sections in books are so long. It takes a village to publish a book, even a 50-page e-book. (Whenever I catch myself saying it’s “only” an e-book or it’s “only” 50 pages, I remind myself that’s like saying I was “only” in labor for 21 hours, or my babies were “only” 8 lbs. apiece. Like it doesn’t count if I didn’t deliver triplets via natural childbirth in the middle of running a marathon. It’s STILL a big deal!!)

Anyway, putting aside my annoying tendency to downplay accomplishments, I would like to thank the numerous people who helped turn my e-publishing dreams into reality. First, I want to thank my wonderful, adorable, exceptionally huggable children for providing me with a goldmine of writing material and for making me a mom, the most “worth it” thing I’ve ever done.

Next, I’d like to thank my wonderful, supportive, equally huggable husband. For months, he has taken the boys off my hands and kept them out of my hair in the evenings, on weekends and holidays, so that I could work on this project without being interrupted to change diapers and fetch cheese sticks and break up fights over who had the red flashlight first. He has listened tirelessly while I rambled on about file sizes and formatting, JPEGs and MOBI, conversion software and shopping-cart tools.

I would also like to thank my mom, now retired from a 30-year+ career as an English teacher, for her thorough proofreading and grammar help. I STILL don’t really understand when to say “her and me” or “he and I,” but it’s a little less fuzzy than it was. And thanks to my dad, a fellow technophile who helped me with PDFs and printing and other techy things.

Thank you to my virtual community of writers, whom (not “who,” right, Mom?) I am so lucky to know, especially: Angie Mizzell, who has served as a sounding board and cheerleader as we both forge ahead in the often daunting world of writing and publishing; Malia Jacobson and Kristine Goad, for selflessly sharing your e-publishing advice and expertise; Christina Katz, who helped shaped the manuscript and suggested the title; Jen Schile, Dylan Klempner, and my other test-readers for your thoughtful and tactful feedback; my rockstar blog designer and e-book cover designer, Heather Moritz of Moritz Fine Designs, who worked through the holidays to get my beautiful cover done while moving to a new house – with 3 kids, no less! Kelly James-Enger and Melissa Culbertson, thank you for generously sharing your expertise online; to Pauline Campos and Alicia Green and everyone else who was willing to read and share my e-book with others; I am heartened that there are people out there like you who believe there’s enough success for all of us and that the more you give, the more you get. You have earned my utmost respect and gratitude.

And lastly, a sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of my blog readers. Some of you have been following me for years, and many of you have contacted me online and off to tell me that you read and enjoy my writing. This means the world to me. Thank you.

GIVEAWAY O’ THE DAY: Want your very own PDF copy of Mama Insider? (I would say “signed copy,” but that exceeds my technical expertise, sorry.) Leave me a comment saying so and I’ll pick a winner at random.

TRIVIA O’ THE DAY: This will make more sense after you’ve read the last chapter of my book, but I treated myself to a pedicure when I finished it. The color I picked was OPI’s “Chocolate Moose.” It gave the boys a chuckle.

Congratulations Abby! I’m one of those people who have been reading your blog for years and I do love your writing. Yours was the first blog I really connected with when I was pregnant. Honest and funny…so obviously I’d love a copy of the book.

I’d love a copy to give to my pregnant friend (due in May). I’m also going to buy a copy for my other friend (due in June).

Congratulations, Abby. I have been following you for a really long time, but only started to comment as of late. I am also an aspiring writer, so when I see people I look up to being successful, it fills me with hope.

Question: launching e-books is something you can do on your own, without having to submit manuscripts to publishers, right?

Yes, if by “on your own” you mean “with lots of help from others.” (See above). 😉 It’s amazing how quickly e-publishing is growing and changing and how much good advice and resources are out there for writers. I’ve tried to share several of them in this post. You can do it!

Congratulations! I can’t wait to read it. And frankly, I’m a little in awe. I can’t imagine birthing a book with all the other stuff you’ve got going on. I would be ready to lie down and sleep for about, oh, a month or so.

And how awesome will it be to have this to read when your kids are grown? I started one of my blogs (my first one, actually) for that reason, and I’m always grateful to have that record of my life. Maybe one day I’ll find the energy to put together a book, too…hmmm, is there enough Diet Coke in the world to fuel me in that endeavor?

Yes! I am also so glad I kept a record because you really do forget so much. You can do it!

I can’t even imagine all the time and energy you’ve put into this! I have to say, the sidebar of your blog is looking pretty snazzy. I’ll go ahead and brag and say I had a vision it would look like that one day. After all, you are awesomeness. 🙂

It’s crazy to think that I found your blog 4 years ago – and yes, the whole new mom thing does provide a lot of material. Congrats again!

Hi Abby,

I’d love a copy of your book!

I found your blog about a year and a half ago when my son was two weeks old and read it from the beginning when I was up feeding him at night. I swear, you helped me stay sane through the sleep deprivation. I still check your blog daily, it’s nice to hear from a real mom!

Keep the blog up, it always makes my day!

I already bought my copy…I’m looking forward to reading it, but mostly I wanted to support a fellow blogger. If I win, I’ll pass the second copy on to someone else. As an added bonus, getting your ebook is forcing me to learn how to do some new stuff with my Kindle. Thanks!

Thank you so much, Lisa. I appreciate the support! This has been a learning process for me, too. 🙂
