Princess Kate and the Lies We’re Told About Having a Baby

by Abby on August 7, 2013

Princess Kate with her newborn babyI may be coming late to this, but I was shocked to hear about the criticism of Princess Kate and her post-baby belly. For reals, people?! You’re expecting a bikini-ready body 24 hours after childbirth? To be fair, it’s possible a lot of the negative comments were from folks who were simply ignorant and not just mean. For instance, I myself was completely blindsided by my belly after giving birth. I packed non-maternity pants to wear home from the hospital, if you can imagine!

That got me thinking about the lies people tell you about having a baby. You’ll forget the pain of labor?! As IF! Read the top 3 lies — and the one undeniable truth — at TheBump.com.

Was there anything you were told about childbirth or new parenthood that turned out to be a big fat fib?

Wow, I could write a book on this. As far as just physical things. I was completely unprepared for the possibility of having a c-section. I packed my bags for the typical two nights in the hospital. I had no idea how hard it would be, how long it would take to recover. And I had no idea how much this would affect breastfeeding, how difficult going through surgery would make first-time breastfeeding.

Oh man, C-sections are a whole different ball game. I was shocked at how little control I had over the birth, even though I’d spent months being taught otherwise in birthing classes and carefully crafting my birth plan. My baby decided how it was going to go down, and that birth plan went right out the window!
