Holiday Hiatus

by Abby on December 9, 2013

So I’ve made the executive decision to take a holiday hiatus from my blog. (“Hiatus” being just a fancy word for break. Word nerd, right here.) Maybe for a couple weeks, maybe through the end of the year, we’ll see. I trust you all will understand. Most people are too busy to read blogs this month anyway, I figure.

Busy-ness is only one factor in my decision, though. There’s also the fact that this time of year, all I want to do is hunker down, snuggle up with my kiddos, and watch “The Grinch.” (Which we have already done, twice. The original Dr. Seuss version, of course.)

You know the part where the Grinch is hating on the Whos and says, “And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the noise! Noise! Noise! Noise! That’s one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!”

I feel him. At this time of year, the world seems particularly noisy. And my instinct is to respond by going quiet. A silent night may be a little ambitious – I DO live in a house full of boys – but silent-ISH, at least.

So I’m taking a break. Relaxing and regrouping. Spending more time with my family. (Ha! That’s a joke! Because I already spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME with my family! We’ve had TWO consecutive snow days off school here. And sometimes I wake up in the wee small hours thinking I’m alone with my husband in bed, only to find myself surrounded by feet and elbows.)

But seriously. The holidays can be crazy. They can be lonely. They can be however you experience them to be. So my wish for you, and for myself, is that you find some small way to embrace the joy of the season. As for me, I’ll be snuggling up under the impossibly cozy “Santa blanket” I bought as an early Christmas present for my family.

Here it is, in an outtake from the Christmas card you probably won’t be getting from us this year. (Again.) Sorry. But I do wish you all the happiest of holidays, friends. See you back here soon.
