‘What to Expect’ and My Amazon Debut

by Abby on May 18, 2012

What to Expect When You're Expecting: the movieIt’s been a long time since I was excited to see a movie in the theater. It takes a lot to get me off my couch and out after dark wearing mascara, but I think I will make the effort for “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” Besides the all-star cast and funny trailer, pregnancy and babies have been a huge part of my life the past few years. I just hope it’s not all epidural jokes and toilet humor. Although let’s face it: that’s a big part of new motherhood.

Being the super-savvy marketing genius that I am, I decided this was the perfect time to launch the Kindle version of my ebook, Mama Insider: Laughing (And Sometimes Crying) All the Way Through Pregnancy, Birth, and the First 3 Months. Check it out! It’s only $4.99, which comes out to less than $0.22 per chapter – a TOTAL steal, in my opinion! And if you prefer your ebooks as PDFs, that version is available here.

Despite how Maurice Sendak felt about them, ebooks are booming, as most of us already know. Last year, Amazon announced that for the first time ever, ebook sales surpassed print books. And in January, the American Association of Publishers reported that sales of adult ebook titles rose 49.4%, to $99.5 million. It’s a good time to be an ebook author.

My one regret about my ebook is that I was not able to include photos. File size, download speed, blah, blah… So in honor of my Amazon debut and “What to Expect,” I decided to treat you lucky readers to some photos from my family album. (Because the high school photo was not embarrassing enough.)

Here I am, big and pregnant, at a baseball game with the hubs. I was 2 weeks away from my due date and terrified I’d suddenly go into labor at Camden Yards. I should’ve been so lucky.

Here’s baby Miles, just home from the hospital, being introduced to our dog, Gracie:

Baby Miles, meeting our dog

“I’m barely a week old and my parents brought me to an Irish pub. Child Services!”

A few years later, a baby brother is born. Doesn’t Miles’ expression say, “What am I supposed to do with THIS?”

And here’s a recent picture of the whole family. I’ve included this solely to prove that I do not always look puffy and bloated and have bad hair.

Have a great weekend! I’ll let you know how the movie is.

PLEA O’ THE DAY: If you have read my ebook and liked it, would you do me the great favor of writing a short review on Amazon? It only takes a few moments and makes a big difference in book sales, from what I hear. This will also save me the embarrassment of only having reviews from people who share my last name. THANK YOU! You guys are the best!

I’m so jealous! My friends are going to see the movie tomorrow (including my preggo friend who is due on Sunday), and I can’t join them because I have no one to babysit my 9mo. Booo!

Nice photos. You can include a bunch in your next book.

That picture on M’s face when he first meets Gracie is classic!!!

We are actually having a date night this weekend. Wonder if I can convince you-know-who that this would be the perfect choice???

Thank you! I really appreciate that. Twist his arm – the movie looks like it’ll appeal to the guys, too.

That last picture *is* great! I like seeing your lovely face.

Keep reminding us about the book (as if you wouldn’t!). We have an iPad now and that seems the best place to put it, but I’m a loser @ technology…must wait till my husband & I can occupy the same space for ten minutes so he can show me how to download it onto the iPad!

Also–I can’t find it on Goodreads, and I put all my review there too. I don’t know if you have any control over getting it listed, but if you do I’ll definitely add it!

Thank you! I can never get my hands on our iPad, either. Have to wrestle it away from the kids. 🙂

Thanks for the tip about Goodreads, too.

I’m ordering your book on Amazon, and I’m a (very young, ahem) grandmother (of very young grandchildren). You write wonderfully on your blog, so I know your book will be fun. And my daughter is expecting her third, so I will share the book with her.
Love your pictures too. :+)

Review. Done. I’m so proud of you! And loved the cute photos. You had a baby… in a bar. With no shoes! I would NEVER do such a thing. *wink*

Thank you!! I know, I’m such a redneck, huh? 😉
