When Did July Happen, and Some Publishing News

by Abby on July 1, 2013

Not Your Mother's Book...on Home ImprovementWhoa! I looked up and it’s JULY. How did that happen?! We’re in the full throes of summer here, with all the kids’ activities, heat, mosquitoes, and abbreviated writing time that this season involves for us work-at-home moms.

It’s OK, though. I may not be writing as much, but I am editing and polishing and revising and submitting and all that other not-so-glamorous stuff that goes into publishing. And guess what? It’s paying off! I have an essay coming out in the new anthology, Not Your Mother’s Book . . . On Home Improvement, being released Sept. 10 by Publishing Syndicate. It’s about my attempt to refurbish a desk for my son, which some of you may recall.

In case you’re not familiar with this series, I see NYMB as a hipper, edgier, more modern Chicken Soup for the Soul. And I have to say, having contributed to quite a few anthologies, I’m pretty impressed with the professionalism and editing process that’s gone into this book. These editors know their stuff. If you’re an essay writer, check out their submission guidelines.

Wishing you a fun, productive, and mosquito-free week!

Holy crap its July? Time flies when the kids are home all day on summer vacation and your wife can’t get out of the house quick enough…I mean, what? Anyway, big congrats on the essay being included in the anthology. Enjoy July before its gone too!

Congratulations! I will be sure to check it out. Enjoy your upcoming vacation! We are leaving for a vacation tomorrow, and I can relate to your post about pre-holiday stress. Classes, work, home renovations, packing and relentless sibling fighting. I will be cracking open the wine at my first opportunity tomorrow. I’ll be on a 9 hour flight with 2 kids and no husband. I’ll need it.
