Happy Friday! Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Have I got suggestions for YOU! First of all, you must go see this movie, Chef.
Watch the trailer here. I love, love, loved it! It touches on all my favorite themes – parenthood, social media, doing work you love. Plus, the cute kid in the movie looks like my 8yo son, dimples and all. (If you see it and hate it, don’t tell me. Then we can still be friends.)
If reading blogs is more your speed, check out Felicity Huffman’s What the Flicka? Yes, that’s right – Lynette from “Desperate Housewives,” William H. Macy’s wife – has a humor/parenting/lifestyle website. When 2 people in 1 week told me they thought I would like her blog, I had to check it out. And sure enough, this post made me LOL: Puff the F*cking Magic Dragon (and Other Monsters of Mothering) She’s my people. And see? The expectations thing again!! Gets you every time.
Speaking of expectations, on the eve of my Big Birthday I’m reminded again that my idea of fun does not have to be the same as everyone else’s idea of fun. Some years I’ve celebrated my birthday with a sushi picnic at the pool with the kids, some years I’ve gone to concerts and partied like a(n aging) rockstar. This year my husband and parents teamed up to give me an early present, which was my trip to Charleston.
One of the best parts of that trip was having a nice, quiet hotel room ALL TO MYSELF where I didn’t have small people banging on the bathroom door inquiring about whether I was going #1 or #2. There was a hilarious episode of “New Girl” where Zooey Deschanel’s character revels in finding herself unexpectedly alone in a hotel room, and I FINALLY found that scene immortalized in GIF form. Enjoy! Or whatever else you personally find enjoyable. 🙂
