Why Kids Should Have iPhones

by Abby on May 3, 2013

My son’s first grade class is learning about fact versus opinion, and how to craft a compelling written argument. I would like to share with you his impassioned essay titled, “Kids Having iPhones”:

My first-grader's essay on why kids should have iPhones

Personally, I don’t find his argument that persuasive. I mean, why is he worried about learning to drive a car at age 6? And kids shouldn’t have to go over to their friend’s house to talk to them?! This is the generation of kids that will text each other when they’re in the same room. And apparently, everything you get for Christmas is free. Who knew?

If you ask me, I think he should worry a little more about his handwriting and spelling, and a little less about cutting-edge technology that it took his mom till age — well, a LOT older than he is, anyway — to acquire. Kids today, I tell ya…

Too funny, kids will always want all the new cool toys, no matter what. To them, an iPhone is more of a toy than anything else…besides, they should wait to get one until they’re at least 60, like all of us old geezers.

The ironic thing is, he knows how to use my phone better than I do.

Isn’t that the truth, it’s like they are born with cyber genes.

Ha! That’s awesome! My husband said his arguments are pretty persuasive. 🙂 But we won’t be getting our kids iPhones for Christmas either!

Brilliant reasoning! I’m curious. Do a lot of kids in his class have iphones? It seems so young.

No, not at all. A few kids may have cell phones, but not many. We do know quite a few kids who have iPads of their own, though.
